THE ART OF CLOTHING…
True story...I found a beautiful men’s cashmere jacket at my local vintage store. It was tailored beautifully and sparked the idea to find vintage men’s jackets in natural fabrics: wool, linen, cotton, cashmere and silk. It was the summer and I had the time to visit vintage shops before my next pop-up venue in the fall. I had never sourced men’s wear,it brought back memories of my retail days in men’s clothing and suiting at Bullocks Department store in the mid 90’s.
Once I found the first jacket, all the other jackets seemed to be waiting for me. The goal was to find ten jackets in pristine condition to style and sell. Next, I found geometric patterned silk ties. I decided to de-construct the ties to look like “ascot” ties.
I adore jewelry, the idea was to use my own jewelry, found objects and to design something special to adorn the jackets. The end result are the images shown. The response was overwhelming. At the “art pop-up” men asked if I had store and where could they buy the clothing? I hadn’t considered the response the clothing would elicit, it was an experiment to see if men would respond to my concept. I had chosen items in perfect condition and this limited my sizing. I bought what I loved and hoped others would feel the same. Well, they did. I learned that regardless of the era you can re-style with imagination and inspire others. It was the thrill of the hunt for me!
The Finchman photoshoot
The Finch man is confident, stylish, ageless,
a true trendsetter.
A gentleman but with a twist.
He has many monikers:
The physicist
The poet
The thinker
The dandy
The dreamer
The one
The lover
The biker, skater, surfer.
At a glance he may seem ordinary
but that is his handle.
He is complex, has many moods,
loves life art and beauty.
However, he can be a showman,
a bon vivant, but
he does so with a kind heart.
When he is in your presence
you feel something different.
He is himself and that is his strength.
